Daniel Donnelly.jpg

Having started his career as a biokineticist and running a practice Daniel Donnelly later realised there was a major shortage of business skills amongst health professionals. He decided to go back to university where he attained a post graduate diploma in management, and his masters in finance as well as a certification in digit marketing. He then launched Medstream, an online education platform to upskill South African health professionals in critical business skills so that they can effectively run their clinics and practices. The courses have been the answer to a skills shortage among health professionals when it comes to business.

Robert Evans manages a busy Biokinetics practice containing 5 Biokineticists and 2 Intern Biokineticists. The practice operates 100% digitally using the following platforms:

·         Billing: EZMed

·         Patient Notes: Evernote

·         Patient exercise prescription: Vee video software

These digital platforms allow for optimal patient care and efficiency in practice management. Robert is constantly searching for ways to grow the profession and provide the best standard of care for his patients. The digital platforms listed above are all encrypted and offer a high standard of patient confidentiality.

Tayla Jane Ross.jpeg

Tayla Jane Ross started at the Walking with Brandon Foundation as a volunteer, assisting patients with Neurological and Orthopaedic rehabilitation in between her studies during her busy Honours Degree year. She has since started her internship with them and is nearly upon completion of her intern year.

Tayla has made many personal sacrifices on numerous occasions for her work because of her passion and love for it and is often seen working 10-12-hour days, opening the practice up at 8am and being the last to leave at 8pm. She does all of this whilst balancing it with her master’s degree in Biokinetics.

Her incredible work ethic is exemplary and is evident through her academic achievements in 2019, having graduated in the First Class and being awarded the BASA Student of the Year Award. She is also noticeably dedicated to growth, not only within her own abilities and qualifications, but to the Biokinetics Profession as a whole. Her Masters research is advocating for Biokinetics in the public health sector through cardiac rehabilitation at Victoria Hospital, Wynberg. She has shown her leadership skills in how she worked as the class representative for the Honours Biokinetics class of 2020 and in how she has guided the UCT Biokinetics students this year, offering her valuable time to help them learn and answer their questions.

Rachel Leistra is a Biokineticist in Johannesburg in Private practice, and currently completing her MSc. She has represented South Africa in Running nationally and internationally.
