Siobhán O'Connor (CAT, MSc, PhD)

Dr O’Connor is an Assistant Professor in the School of Health and Human Performance, Dublin City University (DCU), Ireland. Siobhán graduated in 2009 from the DCU Athletic Therapy and Training programme, is a Certified Athletic Therapist (CAT) and member of Athletic Rehabilitation Therapy Ireland (ARTI), the governing body for Irish Certified Athletic Therapists. Siobhán was the Vice President of ARTI from 2009 to 2017 and is currently the Public Relations Officer (2017-present) and Chair of the Ethics committee (2009-present). In these roles she developed a number of ARTI official documents including: ARTI Scope of Practice, ARTI Code of Ethics and ARTI Professional Practice and Discipline Guidelines and Procedures. In her previous role on the ARTI certification committee she contributed to the design, development and implementation of the ARTI Certification theory and practical examination. Dr O’Connor has a keen interest in developing the athletic therapy profession internationally and currently serves as the Vice President of WFATT. She is also the ARTI International Liaison to the Board of Certification (BOC) and CATA for international ARTI mutual recognition applications (2016-present) and previously served on the ARTI international committee. Dr O’Connor teaches primarily in the area of injury prevention and clinical practice and researches in the field of injury surveillance and prevention, with a particular interest in female athletes and community sports. Dr O’Connor currently supervises 4 PhD and 1 research masters student and has supervised 3 research students to completion. She has published 27 journal articles, with an additional 7 currently under review and acquired €205,000 in competitive research funding as a PI. Siobhán was
